Module 4: Monitor and Evaluate

Congratulations! You have completed all four modules of the website. These checklists will show you how iStock_000008491230XSmallfar you've come

Module 1

1.1  Did you do determinants and interconnections?

rYes                  r In progress                   r No

For example, did you do any of the following:

r Clarify your assumptions about how health disparities are created and maintained

r Identify your target group using health status indicators.

r Identify the factors (determinants) that contribute to the health status.

r Explore how the determinants of health potentially interact.

r Identify potential health disparities.

1.2  Did you use theories to help identify the socio-ecological system levels to target for change?

r Yes                  r In progress                   r No

For example, did you do any of the following:

r Review theories about how interventions address health disparities.

1.3  Did you review the evidence to ensure more than one system level targeted?

r Yes                  r In progress                   r No

For example, did you do any of the following:

r Consider the range of determinants influencing the health issue.

r Identify the socio-ecological system levels.

r Pay special attention to determinants at levels which you might not usually consider in planning interventions.

r Use theory to identify integrated pathways.

r Identify who else needs to be involved.

Module 2

2.1  Did you examine the evidence to identify the appropriate range of multiple interventions to target multiple socio-ecological system levels?

r Yes                  r In progress                   r No

For example, did you do any of the following:

r Identify and review sources of evidence.

r Generate hypothesis about the best possible interventions.

r Use a program planning tool to map how interventions will meet program   objectives.

2.2  Did you develop an integrated theoretical framework?

r Yes                  r In progress                   r No

For example, did you do any of the following:

r Identify the range of theories guiding the interventions.

r Map the theoretical components of intervention pathways.

2.3  Did you plan for adequate implementation quantity of interventions?

r Yes                  r In progress                   r No

For example, did you do any of the following:

r Consider the dimensions of the quantity of implementation.

r Plan for sufficient duration.

r Plan for sufficient intensity.

r Plan for sufficient reach.

r Start planning for sustainability.

2.4  Did you plan for adequate implementation quality of interventions?

r Yes                  r In progress                   r No

For example, did you do any of the following:

r Consider the dimensions of the quality of implementation.

r Plan to implement the intervention according to standards.

r Plan to implement all the essential components of interventions.

r Plan to implement the most potent ingredients for change.

r Plan parameters for intervention adaptation.

Module 3

3.1  Did you plan to combine and sequence interventions within and across levels of the socio-ecological system to enhance potential synergy?

r Yes                  r In progress                   r No

For example, did you do any of the following:

r Recognize the possibility of synergistic effects or antagonistic effects among interventions.

r Use best evidence to guide the choice of the combination of interventions.

r Ensure the combination of interventions target a minimum of two socio-ecological system levels.

3.2  Did you plan to combine and sequence interventions within and across sectors and jurisdictions to enhance potential synergy?

r Yes                  r In progress                   r No

For example, did you do any of the following:

r Refer to integrated theoretical model to guide who else needs to be involved.

r Plan for both horizontal and vertical stakeholder integration.

r Draw on previously established partnerships and networks.

3.3  Did you plan for sustainability, recognising that programs need to be responsive to changing contexts?

r Yes                  r In progress                   r No

For example, did you do any of the following:

r Recognize the role of enabling structures and conditions.

r Identify the presence of necessary infrastructure that will support the initiative.

r Identify the presence of necessary processes and relationships that will support the initiative supports.

Module 4

4.1  Did you draw on evidence to select and design an evaluation framework?

r Yes                  r In progress                   r No

4.2  Did you develop a range of process and outcome indicators to capture distinct dimensions of MIPs?

r Yes                  r In progress                   r No

For example, did you do any of the following:

r Develop a range of process and outcome indicators to capture change at various socio-ecological system levels targeted by MIP

r Develop a range of indicators to capture coordinated and synergistic effects

r Develop indicators that take into account longer-term changes

4.3  Did you compare data currently collected across socio-ecological system levels to ensure that data is consistently collected across socio-ecological system levels, both vertically and horizontally?

r Yes                  r In progress                   r No

4.4  Did you develop tools that permit data collection on distinct dimensions of MIPs?

r Yes                  r In progress                   r No

For example, did you do any of the following:

r Develop tools that permit data collection across organizations, levels, and systems, and in relation to the intended dose.

r Develop data collection tools to measure sustainability.

4.5  Did you use feedback to adapt MIPs?

r Yes                  r In progress                   r No

For example, did you do any of the following:

r Use feedback to coordinate and enhance synergistic effects of interventions.

r Use feedback to monitor and adjust dose quantity (duration, intensity and reach) and dose quality (standards, fidelity, potent ingredients, and fit) of interventions.

r Anticipate and plan longer time periods to monitor dimensions of  sustainability.

4.6  Did you plan to monitor spin-offs?

r Yes                  r In progress                   r No

And finally:

r Did you do all elements of a socio-ecological assessment?

r Did you target the interventions at multiple levels in the system?

r Did you put a plan in place to evaluate the synergistic elements of the intervention/s?

If you answered 'yes' to all three of the final questions, you are well on your way to planning a MIP.
