Increased cancer screening indicated there were synergies in the Mujer Sana/Comunidad Sana project. There were two sequential interventions. First, lay health promoters were trained, then they conducted outreach and education activities for Hispanic women. Each was designed to increase the number of Hispanic women accessing health services for cancer screening. Neither intervention by itself would have been successful, because without training, the Spanish-speaking health promoters would have been unlikely to educate Hispanic women about the importance of cancer screening procedures.
